BAERMUN 2008 (Press)

Dear Press Delegates,
“Real world” journalism is often closely linked to politics. Similarly, a model UN needs reporting about conference events in order to make the delegates feel that their efforts are noticed by people outside of their committee. BERMUN is not only a conference for aspiring politicians, but also for future journalists, photographers, videographers (including cameramen, news speakers, and digital editors), and aspiring layout designers.

The BERMUN Press Team, Bearmun, produces four newspaper editions in the course of the conference. A four-page pre-edition will be distributed during the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday. After vigorous press work on Wednesday and Thursday, we will issue the second, eight-page edition with a two-page color inlay on Friday, including an overview of events during the committee sessions. Our second printed edition, another ten-page newspaper, will be released on Saturday during the Closing Ceremony. Our final edition will be available in PDF format on this website several days after the conference, in order to thoroughly wrap up the last day’s events. Moreover, our digital broadcast team will air videos during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as short snippets during lunch hours.

The press team is far from idle. Bearmun journalists must be well informed about the conference theme – Empowering Women: A Prerequisite for Global Development – and procedures. They must have researched in order to understand what their committees will discuss. We maintain a professionalism at all times and respect rules of placement and interruption during all events of the conference. We work to deadlines; if not kept there is no newspaper the next day. Press work at BERMUN is vigorous and highly rewarding when the final product is released. We work long after most committee sessions end, in order to report the events of the day in a complete manner. Usually the last to leave the school in the evenings, Bearmun Press is a serious and contributing entity of the BERMUN conference.

All Bearmun Press Delegates must follow the rules of conduct and the dress code of the conference. As per last March, the Bearmun Press Team has a reputation of being the best dressed BERMUN organ. We intend to uphold that level of professionalism during this BERMUN, the best BERMUN ever.

Kind regards,
Farsane Tabataba-Vakili, Editor in Chief
Heidi Morain, Off-site Consultant
Walter Connolly, Faculty Advisor
Azucena Beltan, Layout Advisor
