About JFKS

With 1,710 students, 135 classrooms and an educational policy addressed specifically by Berlin Parliament, the John F. Kennedy School (JFKS) is a milestone in bilingual public schools. JFKS is a German-American school that symbolizes the close ties between Germans and Americans - a perfect embodiment of the spirit of President John F. Kennedy himself.

It was originally founded in 1960 under the name of the German-American Community School but was renamed in memory of John F. Kennedy in 1963. JFKS combines the strengths of German and American educational traditions-both German and English are equally respected as languages of instruction. The curriculum and learning strategies encourage the development of responsible, democratic citizens and stimulates open-mindedness and critical thinking skills within the students. The faculty, staff and administration constantly search for new ways to challenge each student intellectually, emotionally and socially. Bilingual education and interaction with other cultures is key to learning tolerance and respect for others, a vital prerequisite for peace and understanding in the world.
