Welcome to the BERMUN Youth Assembly 2006 Website
The BERMUN Youth Assembly strives to:
- address current, critical issues considered by young people to be of immediate
concern to their lives
- empower youth to take immediate concrete action at local and international
levels
- encourage youth involvement and initiative to combat HIV/AIDS
- promote democratization in civil society and
- support the United Nations’ role in world and humanitarian affairs.
H.E.L.P.ing Youth Fight against HIV/AIDS at a Global Level
During the 2005 BERMUN conference, the Youth Assembly established the HIV/AIDS Education and Learning Program (H.E.L.P.) At this year’s BERMUN, the Youth Assembly aims at combating HIV/AIDS on a global level by using H.E.L.P. as a model for concrete action. H.E.L.P. is based on a peer-to-peer network, whose goal is to educate youth around the world about the existing threat of HIV/AIDS and to focus on methods for prevention. By enlisting H.E.L.P. Youth Ambassadors, the task of combating the spread of HIV/AIDS and the fight against discrimination for the affected will be carried into schools, universities and local communities. The scope of the Youth Assembly’s efforts will be expanded beyond last year’s focus on Eastern Europe to include participants from Ghana and Kenya.
