BERMUN Youth Assembly Topic 2005

Country Specific Situation and Strategies on HIV/Aids

A. The incidence HIV/Aids in your homecountry

  • Determine the level of infection on HIV/Aids in your country. List official health statistics and determine how reliable they are. In your opinion do they accurately represent the level of HIV/Aids infection. Data for health statistics can be obtained from national statistics and various multilateral institutions, such as WHO, UNAIDS, World Bank and UNICEF. Some of these institutions also have offices in your country which you should try to contact.
  • Who is affected by HIV/Aids in your country (what socio-economic classes, gender, children, age-groups, professional groups)? Try to present to the assembly a profile of typical groups at risk to be affected by HIV/Aids.

B. National Strategies for HIV/Aids Prevention and Treatment – Assessment of Public Opinion

  • Is there a National Strategy for HIV/Aids prevention and treatment? If yes, please describe and present how the program is defined and through which groups it was and is currently still supported. If there is a National Strategy for HIV/Aids prevention and treatment, is it being implemented? Assess (to the best of your ability) the effectiveness and progress of these programs.
  • In your country, how does the public perceive HIV/Aids? Is it being discussed; if yes, how? Please make a qualitative assessment through conducting a short survey in your local community.
  • Present to the Assembly your personal experiences concerning HIV/Aids in your country and how the topic is addressed among your peers and age-group.

C. Actors and Programs of Aids Prevention/Treatment in your Country

  • Describe different institutions/programs which are active in your country and local community in HIV/Aids prevention, such as multilateral or bilateral institutions and civil society. Share specific experiences and your assessment of the programs.

D. Proposal for a HIV/AIDS Program to be supported by Youth Assembly

  • Present one program/project in your country which, in your opinion, would deserve funding support by your Youth Assembly. Be prepared to present the activities of the program and give reasons for your choice.
